Hymn GTG #773, “Heaven Shall Not Wait”
Hymn GTG #757, “Today We All Are Called to Be Disciples”

Call to Worship (based on Amos 5:14-15)

Leader: Seek good and not evil,
People: So that the Lord will be with you.
Leader: Hate evil, love good,
People: That you may have life!
Leader: Let us worship the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on Amos 5:14)

Leader: Although the prophet Amos tells us to seek good and not evil, our nature is such that we fail at this time and time again. In faith, let us confess our sin to God so that we might turn from it to seek good once again.

Prayer of Confession (based on Amos 5:21-24)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or
collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: Holy One, we confess the ways that our worship falls short of your glory. We celebrate the holidays of your Church, but you are unimpressed. We follow ancient tradition, yet you desire more. We lift up songs of praise in your honor, and even that does not satisfy you. These things by which we measure our righteousness are meaningless on their own. Forgive us, O God, for our performative faith. Help us become a people marked not by ritual, but by justice that rolls down like waters. In your mercy, hear our prayers…

(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Amos 5:15)

Leader: When we make the choice to reject evil and love what is good, the Lord God of heavenly forces is with us. Hear the good news: in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
