Call to Worship (based on Daniel 6:26-27)

Leader: Our God is the living God,
People: Who performs signs and miracles in heaven and on earth!
Leader: God’s kindom is indestructible; God’s rule is eternal.
People: Our God stands firm forever!
Leader: The Lord is our rescuer and savior!
People: Let us worship the living God!

Call to Confession (based on Daniel 6:16)

Leader: Before throwing Daniel to the lions, King Darius tells him, “Your God – the one you serve so consistently – will rescue you.” If even a Babylonian king can recognize God’s saving grace, how much more, then, should we who have experienced it firsthand be able to? Let us confess our sin to the Lord of mercy.

Popcorn Prayer of Confession (based on Daniel 6:5-9)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: God of all peoples and nations, we confess that we, like generations before us, allow our personal agendas to lead us in ways that grieve your heart. If we cannot get ahead through honesty and hard work, we resort to flattery and subterfuge. If we cannot find fault in our opponents, we invent it. If we find that justice is inconvenient, we create new laws to suit our own purposes. Lord, forgive us these sins. Give us the wisdom to stop “othering” those whom you call beloved and the strength to seek righteousness in all things. In your mercy, hear our prayers…

(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Daniel 6:27)

Leader: God is rescuer and savior; the Lord who saved Daniel from the lions’ power rescues us just as surely from our sin. Hear the good news: in Christ’s name, we are forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
