Call to Worship (based on Genesis 22:1, 14)

Leader: When God calls to us, we answer:
People: We’re here!
Leader: We gather to learn about the God who sees and knows us fully.
People: We’re here!
Leader: We gather to proclaim God’s goodness, mercy, and love.
People: We’re here to worship the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on Genesis 22:14)

Leader: We see who God is through scripture, and scripture tells us that the Lord doesn’t require perfection; the Lord requires repentance. Therefore, let us turn to God and confess our sins.

Prayer of Confession (based on Genesis 22:2-3)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or
collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: Merciful Lord, we confess that all too often, we see our relationship with you in simplistic terms. We reduce the human/divine connection to a series of isolated interactions requiring blind obedience. We fail to consider that you created us for more. You long to hear our joys, our fears, our hopes, our dreams, and yes, even our arguments and complaints. You do not want submissive servants; you want beloved children. Forgive us for neglecting our relationship with you, O Lord, and in your mercy, hear our prayers…

(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Genesis 22:14)

Leader: The Lord sees even the innermost parts of us, the good and the bad, and God loves us unconditionally. Hear the Good News: in Jesus Christ, we are all forgiven.
People: Thanks be to God!
