*Call to Worship (based on Job 28:12, 28)

Leader: Where can Wisdom be found?
People: Reverence for the Lord is Wisdom.
Leader: Where is the place of understanding?
People: Turning from evil is understanding.
Leader: Let us seek the Wisdom of God here and now.
People: Let us worship the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on Job 28:1-12)

Leader: Humanity will descend to the depths of the earth for that which the world considers valuable, yet we refuse to plumb the depths of our own souls to confront what we find there. Trusting in the Lord’s merciful love, let us take a leap of faith and confess that which is holding us back from relationship with God.

Unison Prayer of Confession (based on Job 28)

People: Holy Wisdom, we claim to seek you in good faith, but we are ashamed to admit that our true goal is our own glory. We look high and low for riches, power, safety, and control, but we know that you do not dwell there. We take great risks and go to great lengths to achieve and acquire, but we know that you do not dwell there. We deal in vanity and certainty, but we know that you do not dwell there. We are captives of our ego, O Holy One. Forgive us, and help us to trust less in our own efforts than we trust in you. In your mercy, hear our prayers…
(Silent prayers of personal forgiveness)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Job 28:28)

Leader: In confessing our sin, we take the first step in turning from evil and revering the Lord. God calls this “wisdom”, and proclaims that in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
