*Call to Worship (based on Hosea 11:1-4)

Leader: From the time we were children, God has loved us.
People: We are here, O Lord!
Leader: God leads us with bands of human kindness and cords of love.
People: We are here, O Lord!
Leader: God lifts the yoke from our necks and takes us up in God’s arms.
People: We are here to worship the Lord our God!

Call to Confession (based on Hosea 11:7)

Leader: God knows our hearts better than we do. God knows that we are determined to make our own way, that we call God “the Most High”, but we don’t truly honor the Lord. Let us confess our sin openly, knowing that nothing is secret to God.

Popcorn Prayer of Confession (based on Hosea 11:5-7)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.

When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: Holy One, we hear your voice calling to us, yet we refuse to return to you. We live with the consequences of our stubbornness every day: foreign powers seek to manipulate us, war swirls through our cities, and we are trapped within our own evil plans. Forgive us, O Lord. Do not desert us as we have deserted you. In your mercy, hear our prayers…
(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Hosea 11:8)

Leader: Hear these words of the Lord: “How can I get you up, Israel? How can I let you go? My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows.” In the name of Jesus the Christ, we are all forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
