Call to Worship

Leader: Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.
People: We come before God as wonderers, wanderers, and seekers.
Leader: For everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door is opened.
People: Let us ask questions, seek Christ, and knock on the kindom’s door together.
Leader: The Lord be with you!
People: And also with you!
Leader: Let us worship the Lord.

Call to Confession

Leader: God stands at the door, ready to offer forgiveness to all who seek it. But we cannot be forgiven for what we refuse to acknowledge we’ve done. Therefore, let us fearlessly confess our sins before God, knowing that those who ask for mercy will surely receive it.

Unison Prayer of Confession

People: Great Giver and Judge over all creation, we confess that we travel through life with logs in our eyes. We expect to be showered with undeserved blessings while forgetting to ask for what we really need. We wait for wisdom to be bestowed upon us while we do nothing to pursue it ourselves. We bemoan doors that remain closed to us while neglecting to ask to be let in. And yet, for all that we cannot see within ourselves, we continue to relentlessly criticize the splinters in our neighbor’s eyes – the opinions we don’t like, the identities we don’t acknowledge, the customs we don’t understand. Forgive us, O Lord. Help us to see with new eyes and to love with Christ’s heart. In your mercy, hear our prayer… [Silent prayers of personal forgiveness]

Declaration of Forgiveness

Leader: Children of God, if even you, who are sinful, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Parent give good things to those who ask? You have prayed, and now God answers your prayer with abundance: in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!
