*Call to Worship (based on Acts 2:1-3)

Leader: When Pentecost Day arrived, they were all together in one place.
People: Gather us in as your people, O God!
Leader: They saw what seemed to be individual flames of fire alighting on each one of them, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
People: Set our hearts on fire for your kindom, O God!
Leader: The Lord be with you!
People: And also with you!
Leader: Let us worship the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on Romans 8:28)

Leader: Paul assures us that there is nothing we can do or leave undone that God cannot use for God’s own good purposes. Therefore, trusting in God’s power, let us admit our sins and bare our hearts to the Holy One.

Unison Prayer of Confession (based on Romans 8:29-30)

People: Merciful God, you have entrusted so much to us, but in our weakness, we have misconstrued this gift. We arrogantly revel in the titles we have claimed for ourselves on your behalf: “beloved children”, “chosen ones,” “blessed”, “the elect”. We wear these titles proudly as badges of honor when you have given them to us as obligations. You have made us stewards of creation and keepers of our human siblings, but we let your creation decay and your children suffer. We have failed in our responsibilities. Forgive us, O Searcher of Hearts. Send your Spirit to fill our mouths with holy words and our hearts with repentance and love. May your power be made perfect in our weakness. In your mercy, hear our prayer.…
(Silent prayers of personal forgiveness)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Romans 8:38-39)

Leader: Hear now this good news: nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus – not death or life, not angels or rulers, not even our own sin. In Christ’s name, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God!
