Leader: Christ did not die to quell the wrath of a vengeful God.
People: Christ died to reconcile humanity with a God of abundant love.
Leader: In baptism, we take part in Christ’s death as we die to sin.
People: In baptism, we take part in Christ’s resurrection as we are raised to new life.
Leader: Christ is risen!

Call to Confession (based on Romans 6:13)
Leader: Paul instructs the Romans to present themselves to God as people who have been brough back to life from the dead. Therefore, let us likewise come before God in humility as a people who are no longer beholden to sin’s grasp, but have been offered new life through grace.
Unison Prayer of Confession (based on Romans 6:6-11, 13)
People: God of Mercy, our old selves have been crucified along with Christ, yet we refuse to let go of our old sinful ways. We still seek comfort when we should seek justice. We still pursue personal gain when we should pursue selflessness. We still practice politics when we should practice love. We still cling to the world when we should cling to you. We forget that your promised resurrection cannot happen until we allow the old parts of ourselves to die. Forgive us, O Lord. Remind us that we are no longer held captive by our sin, and help us to leave behind that which separates us from you. We offer our whole selves for your glory, O Holy One. Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Romans 6:10-11)
Leader: Jesus died to sin once and for all with his death, but he lives for God with his life. In the same way, we also should consider ourselves dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus, because in him, we are all forgiven! Thanks be to God!
