*Call to Worship (based on 2 Peter 1:3-4)

Leader: The Lord has given us everything we need to live a righteous life.
People: Through God’s honor and glory, we have been gifted much!
Leader: The wonderful promise of the Lord is this:
People: That we might share in God’s holiness and find new life in Christ!
Leader: Let us give thanks and worship the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on 2 Peter 1:9)

Leader: Knowing that God has cleansed all of our past sins, let us reject the short-sightedness of self-reliance and together confess our sins before the Lord.

Unison Prayer of Confession (based on 2 Peter 1:5-7)

People: Holy One, we know that faith alone is sufficient for your grace, but we forget that faith does not exist in isolation. You call us not only to faith, but to virtuousness, to knowledge, to self-control, to perseverance, to reverence, to mutual affection, and to love. We confess, O Lord, that we willingly take part in a society that sees virtue as weakness. That we embrace the simplicity of ignorance. That we readily give in to our desires, to our impatience, and to our self-worship. But most of all, God, we confess that we fail to love as you have loved – as you have called us to love. Not only our siblings in Christ, but all of your beloved children. Forgive us, Lord. In your mercy, hear our prayer…
(Silent prayers of personal forgiveness)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on 2 Peter 1:10)

Leader: Beloved, if we readily proclaim our identity as a chosen and called people, how much more should we embrace our identity as sinners who have been graciously and utterly forgiven? So long as we recognize this, we will never be lost. Hear and believe that this is so, through Christ our savior, redeemer, brother, and friend!
People: Thanks be to God!
