Hymn GTG #484, “Out of Deep Unordered Water”
Leader: Human One, do you see?
People: We see God at work in the world around us!
Leader: Human One, do you see?
People: We see life abundant and resurrection of that which was once dead!
Leader: Human One, do you see?
People: We see, and we believe!
Call to Confession (based on Ezekiel 47:8)
Leader: When the waters of Ezekiel’s vision enter the Dead Sea, its waters become fresh. Likewise, when the Holy Spirit flows into our hearts, she cleanses it of all sins. Let us open our hearts through confession and trust God to do their work.
Popcorn Prayer of Confession (based on Ezekiel 47:5)
You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:
People: God of life, we find ourselves in over our heads. Your will is so powerful and your strength so overwhelming that we are afraid. We fear for our safety, we fear your call on our lives, and we fear what lies ahead. Forgive us for our fear and inaction, we pray, and, when we come to the edge of the river of life and are unable to cross on foot, you grant us the courage to jump in and swim. In your mercy, hear our prayers… (Silent prayers of personal confession)
Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Ezekiel 47:8-9)
Leader: God is capable of bringing life where no life should be possible. How, then, can we doubt God’s capacity to forgive our sins? Hear the good news: in Christ’s name, we are all forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
