Call to Worship (based on Psalm 65:2-5)

Leader: How happy are the ones the Lord chooses to bring close.
People: We are filled by God’s goodness!
Leader: All living things come to the Lord.
People: For none are turned away from God’s stream.
Leader: The Lord’s righteousness covers all.
People: Let us worship the God of our salvation!

Call to Confession (based on Psalm 65:5-7)

Leader: Even as chaos swirls through our world, God calms the roaring seas, calms the roaring waves, calms the noise of the nations. Let us quiet the seas that roil within us as we confess our sins, seeking the peace that only God can provide.

Popcorn Prayer of Confession (based on Psalm 65:1)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness. When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: God of Zion, to you, even silence is praise. And yet, we are far more eager to talk than to listen. You know our iniquities without our needing to speak them aloud; therefore, we lift our silence to you in penitence and faith. In your mercy, hear our prayers…

(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Psalm 65:13)

Leader: God drenches the meadows and valleys with the rain that they thirst for, and so they shout for joy. Our lives also overflow with God’s goodness and mercy, and so we, too, break out in song: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
