Call to Worship (based on 2 Samuel 7:6-7)

Leader: The Lord cannot be confined to any human-made dwelling place,
People: No walls can hold God’s glory!
Leader: No house or hut,
People: No tent or temple,
Leader: No church or country or creed can contain our God!
People: Let us worship the Lord of all creation!

Call to Confession (based on 2 Samuel 7:14-15)

Leader: No matter how much wrong we do, the Lord will never take God’s faithful love away from us. Though there will be consequences for our actions, God will never abandon us. Let us confess our sin in full confidence of God’s love and mercy.

Prayer of Confession

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: Almighty God, we confess that we act out of selfish motives more often than we’d like to believe. Despite our best intentions, we prioritize prestige and achievement over genuine service to others. We take mission trips to far away places when there’s need in our own backyards. We self-righteously shout our opinions at others rather than doing the hard work of engaging in conversation. Our altruism is often egotism in disguise. Forgive us our pride, our self-righteousness, and our savior complexes. Help us to remember that the only one with the power to save is you. In your mercy, hear our prayers…

(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on 2 Samuel 7:11)

Leader: No matter what we’ve done, The Lord promises that we will always have a home with God. Hear the good news: in Jesus Christ, we are all forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
