Hymns

Hymn GTG #730, “I Sing a Song of the Saints of God”
Hymn GTG #732 “Rejoice in God’s Saints”

Call to Worship

Leader: We give thanks for the saints of God,
People: Those who teach us of God’s love and provision.
Leader: We celebrate those whose faith serves as beacon for us,
People: A light guiding along the way of life.
Leader: Thanks be to God for this cloud of witnesses!
People: Let us praise the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on 1 Kings 17:1, 6)

Leader: The Lord our God is all-powerful, providing for both rain from the sky and food from the land. It is a simple matter, then, for God to offer forgiveness for our sins. Let us confess them now, as an expression of our trust in the Lord of all.

Popcorn Prayer of Confession (based on 1 Kings 17:13)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or
collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: God of abundance, you so often send us prophets with the same message: do not be afraid. Do not be afraid of the future; do not be afraid of the struggles ahead of you; do not be afraid of want or need, for the Lord your God is with you always. Yet we confess, O God, that we are afraid. We struggle to let go of our fear, to be brave, and to trust you fully. We let our fear overwhelm our faith. Forgive us, O Lord, for this and all our sins, and in your mercy, hear our prayers…
(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on 1 Kings 17:14)

Leader: The Lord always provides in abundance, not only for physical needs, but for our spiritual well-being. Hear the good news: in Christ Jesus, we are forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
