Call to Worship (based on John 9:35-38, 10:14)
Leader: Do you believe in the Human One?
People: We want to believe!
Leader: He is the one of whom the Scriptures speak, who lays down his life for us.
People: Let us worship the Human One, the Word of God, our shepherd and our Lord!
Call to Confession (based on John 10:14)
Leader: Jesus is the good shepherd. He knows his own sheep. What good can it do, then, for us to hide from him? Let us honestly and humbly confess our sin.
Prayer of Confession (based on John 9:16)
People: God of Compassion, we confess that we allow ourselves to be divided by things that truly do not matter. We quibble about rules and decorum when we should be united in our love for our fellow human beings. We argue amongst ourselves instead of turning to you for guidance. Forgive us, we pray. Help us understand that your way is not one of human judgment, but of connection and care. In your mercy, hear our prayers…
Declaration of Forgiveness (based on John 10:14)
Leader: Jesus is the good shepherd. Just as he knows his own sheep, so, too, do they know him. We already know our Lord to be merciful and loving. Hear and believe, then, the Good News: in Christ’s name, we are all forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
