*You are welcome to use or adapt any of my resources for free, but I ask that you provide proper citation AND comment on this post to let me know.*

 Additional Hymns:

Hymn GTG #232, “Jesus Christ is Risen Today” [vv. 1, 3, & 4]
Hymn GTG #238, “Thine Is the Glory” [vv. 1 & 2]

Call to Worship (based on Luke 24:1-8)

Leader: We come to the tomb prepared for grief, but we leave in joy and wonder.
People: Alleluia!
Leader: Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here.
People: Alleluia!
Leader: Christ is risen!
People: He is risen indeed! Let us worship the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on Luke 24:7, 26, 46-47)

Leader: On this day of celebration, we remember that resurrection cannot happen without first encountering death. Likewise, forgiveness cannot happen without a change of heart and life. So let us die to our old selves as we confess our sins, trusting fully in the promise of Easter morning.

Prayer of Confession (based on Luke 24:13-27)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:
People: O Holy One, we confess that our eyes, ears, and hearts remain closed to you. We have more faith in death’s power than in your promise of resurrection. We are so absorbed with our own concerns that we don’t recognize you when you walk beside us. We are foolish people with dull minds. Forgive us. Teach us. Inspire us. Feed us. Overcome our self-centeredness so that we can hear and believe your good news for ALL people. In your mercy, hear our prayer…
(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Luke 24:2, 32)

Leader: Beloved, look at the evidence around you: the stone is rolled away! The tomb is empty! Our hearts are on fire with the Good News: Christ is risen!
People: He is risen indeed!
Leader: God’s promises have been fulfilled; sin and death no longer have any power over us. Through Christ, we are forgiven and freed.
People: Thanks be to God!
