Hymns
Hymn GTG #652, “A Grateful Heart”
Hymn GTG #720, “Jesus Calls Us”
Hymn GTG #767, “Together We Serve”
Call to Worship (based on Philippians 2:1)
Leader: We gather to find encouragement in Christ,
People: To find comfort in love,
Leader: To share in the Spirit,
People: To practice compassion and mercy.
Leader: Give thanks to God, in whom we find all this and more!
People: Let us worship the Lord!
Call to Confession (based on Philippians 2:-8)
Leader: Though he was in the form of God, Christ Jesus willingly humbled himself for our sake. Let us be of the same mind as Christ, so that, in likewise humbling ourselves, we might also share in his resurrection. Let us confess our sin.
Prayer of Confession (based on Philippians 2:2-4)
You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:
People: Holy Guide and Guardian, we willingly accept your call to preach the Good News, but our motives are not always pure. Sometimes, we are motivated by self-righteousness - the conviction that we are better than others. Sometimes, we are motivated by ambition - the desire to succeed by the world’s standards. Sometimes, we are motivated by spite - the drive to defeat our spiritual rivals. But none of this reflects the God of love that you have proven yourself to be. Forgive us, we pray, for all the times that our own desires have obscured your gospel. Grant us the same servant heart which was also in Jesus Christ, so that his love might always direct our path. In your mercy, hear our prayers…
(Silent prayers of personal confession)
Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Philippians 2:9-11)
Leader: With every tongue in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, we confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Let us rejoice that, in this name above all names, we are all forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
