Call to Worship (based on Exodus 32:13)

Leader: God faithfully remembers God’s promise to Abraham, to Isaac, to Israel:
People: That they would flourish and thrive!
Leader: God faithfully remembers God’s promise to Abraham, to Isaac, to Israel:
People: That they would always have a place where they belong!
Leader: God faithfully remembers God’s promise to Abraham, to Isaac, to Israel - and to us!
People: Let us give thanks and worship the Lord of our salvation!

Call to Confession (based on Exodus 32:30)

Leader: Each one of us has committed terrible sins - intentional sins, accidental sins, sins of omission. But when we repent, our high priest Jesus Christ intercedes and appeals to God on our behalf. Let us confess our sin.

Prayer of Confession (based on Exodus 32:7-8)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: Incomparable God, you know that we are stubborn idolaters. We worship the gods of power, of productivity, of prosperity, of conquest. We obey their demands and make sacrifices for them. We credit them with our success. We proclaim you as Lord, yet we confess that in our hearts, these are our true gods. Forgive us, we humbly pray. Grant that we might see these false deities for what they are, and show us the way back to you. In your mercy, hear our prayers…
(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Exodus 32:14)

Leader: No matter how fiercely God’s anger may burn, it is God’s nature to be merciful. Hear the good news: in Jesus Christ, we are all forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
