Call to Worship (based on Psalm 88:1-2)

Leader: Day by day, we cry out to the Lord,
People: O God of our salvation!
Leader: Even at night, we come before the Holy One,
People: The God of our salvation!
Leader: Even now, we call out to the Lord:
People: Let us worship the God of our salvation.

Call to Confession (based on Psalm 88:8b)

Leader: When we feel trapped by our sin, only God can set us free. Therefore, let us turn to the Lord in humility and hope as we confess that which holds us prisoner.

Prayer of Confession (based on Psalm 145:8, 88:5-8, 40:3)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.
When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: Compassionate and merciful God, we confess that when we are suffering, we forget who you are. We forget that you are gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and we blame you for our misfortune. We accuse you of forgetting us, cutting us off from you, turning our friends against us, and smothering us with your anger. We speak these words out of fear and pain, but they do not reflect who we know you to be. Forgive our slander, O Lord. Put a new song in our mouths, so that we might sing your praises again.  In your mercy, hear our prayers…
(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Psalm 88:11)

Leader: The Lord is a god of steadfast love and faithfulness. It is because of God’s nature that we can be certain of this good news: in Christ’s name, we are all forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
