Call to Worship (based on Genesis 17:17, 18:12)

Leader: God promised, and Abraham laughed.
People: It is hard to believe the impossible.
Leader: God promised, and Sarah laughed.
People: It is hard to let hope enter a grieving heart.
Leader: Open our hearts, O God, to the unexpected.
People: Let us worship the Lord!

Call to Confession (based on Genesis 18:12-13)

Leader: Sarah laughed to herself, thinking that she was alone. But the Lord heard her laugh and knew her heart. Let us confess our sin to the one who knows us fully.

Popcorn Prayer of Confession (based on Genesis 18:12)

You are invited to speak a word or short phrase that describes a personal or collective sin of which you repent and seek forgiveness.

When the gathered community is finished sharing, we pray together:

People: Lord, we have been taught to bear our pain alone, but you have blessed us with beloved community to help carry the weight of life. Grant us the strength, wisdom, and courage to share both our emotional and physical burdens with one another. In your mercy, hear our prayers…
(Silent prayers of personal confession)

Declaration of Forgiveness (based on Genesis 18:14)

Leader: Is anything too difficult for the Lord? Our sins may be great, but God’s mercy and goodness are greater. Hear the good news: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
People: Thanks be to God!
